At Motya the Soprintendenza of Trapani has pursued a very active scientific and enhancement promotion. New archaeological research has documented the presence of organized life on the coast surrounding the Stagnone lagoon; on the island the Soprintendenza has undertaken the museum restoration and the tophet exploitation and new excavations under an agreement with three universities (“House of the Mosaics”, University of Bologna: wall system, acropolis and kothon, University of Rome “La Sapienza”; K and KE Areas and necropolis, by the University of Palermo). In the museum, the old Whitaker collection has been integrated with an exhibition of materials from recent excavations; in 2013, as a result of the cultural agreement between the J. Getty Museum and the Sicilian Regional Government, the statue of the “Youth of Motya” has been equipped with a new display support and an insulating antiseismic base.
