We are looking into some iconographical themes with Greek origins or influences in the context of one particular category of Punic craftwork: clay objects known as “bread stamps”, or “matrices”, which were probably used for the decoration of foods used for ritual purposes. The analysis of the stamps in examination, datable from between the 6th and the 4th c. BC, reveals that Greek iconographies in Punic contexts derive mainly from originals of Attic figured pottery, but also from glyptic or numismatic models. These models are not particularly common, but are significant in the study of the relationships between the Punic and Greek cultures.
