The available evidence regarding the manifold activities attributed to Thales is analyzed in order to evaluate possible connections with the Philosopher’s Phoenician origin, asserted by Herodotus. This presumed oriental origin, as well as Thales’ traditional journey to Egypt, boosted the shaping of his image as that of an intermediary between East and West.
