Abstract

Here we study two terracotta figurines found in the es Culleram sanctuary cave (Ibiza, Spain) whose main feature is that they are wearing a big himation which covers a fair part of their bodies and which they are taking off with their right hands in what is generally known as anakalypsis, or veil-gesture. The study of these singular pieces, unique among the sanctuary votive offerings and in the Punic archeological sites on the Isle of Ibiza, leads us to suggest some ways of interpretation.
